It is very exciting to get your first motorhome. We found it more convenient to set up than a caravan and with practice you can be packed up and ready to roll in quite a short time. I think that we used to manage it in about 20 minutes with 2 children under 6 year's old. That was with a 4/5 berth coachbuilt Talbot which had complex bed. Enjoy!

Hope that you have many happy holidays in it. You're fortunate living in /near Portsmouth (as I used to do) with easy access to the continent. Let us know how you get on.

Hi..

A bit of boring advice(that you are probably already aware of ), that is, don't make your first outing too far or for too long, just in case something doesn't work and/or you need to contact the dealer about something that wasn't fully explained to you on hand-over...

On the subject of the handover, get them to show you EVERYTHING working...and on EVERY power source (so it'll need to be hooked-up, have a gas bottle connected and water in the tank!).

Too many dealers seem to  have a "They'll bring it  back if there's something wrong with it" approach and use us, the buyers, to do their PDI/fault finding for them!

Ask questions and take notes if needs be and don't just assume that you can read about it in the handbook when you get home(2 of the 3 handbooks we've had, were all but useless).Having said that, there's little that can't be found online or on forums such as this..

Have fun.

Same here, after many years under canvas and old age creeping up we have just bought a Bailey autograph 765.
Our handover was quite informative but only using it last weekend did we realise that we had so much to learn.
As a previous poster said the handbooks are not always any use.
so far it all seems to be fine and quite well built and fault free.it Was a bit nervous driving a 7m+ vehicle for the first 50 mile or so.

Hi, we've had similar progression to you. Really enjoying the motorhome which we've had for just over twelve months.
We've a Bailey 740, and still can't get over the joy of turning up on site plugging in and having the kettle on within just a few minutes (we normally fill our water tank before leaving home).
We also use it far more than the caravan or folding camper. We used to go away two or three times a year max before, but used it eight times last year and probably will use it the same this year too if not more.
I hope that you enjoy yours as much as we do ours.

Hi Sam and Bens Mum,

As previous campers and Vanners I am sure you will adapt to motohoming very quickly.

We use ours a lot in the Uk for weekend and days out but enjoy mainland Europe most of all using their network of aires and quality campsite.

Let us know how you get on.

Guy
