HI

We are hiring a motorhome this August to visit France, first time we have done this!

We need an awning for the motorhome. I have no idea what kind of awning we need to look at, we would need something that would attach itself to the body of the motorhome.

Any ideas on what we need ?

this is the motorhome we are hiring http://www.justgo.uk.com/rambler-motorhome-hire.html

thanks

Tony

We've had a MH for 10 years, have never used an awning. A drive away one isn't cheap & takes time to put up which is better spent driving to the next lovely site on your tour. Takes up space too. A builder's tarp & old tent poles / guys is a cheap way to keep the rain off if we want to sit outside, but if it's nice we want to sit out in the sun. If the awning is for storing your bikes or golf bags while you're away for the day, then just make sure its door is tall enough for your MH door - or buy a festival / pup tent for them. Enjoy your trip!

Take a look at a base seconds pop up tent from decathlon.

It takes second to put up and take down and is ideal for storing outside furniture and reserving your pitch etc.

Tony..

As it's only a hire van, as has been said, be really sure that you need any "awning"..

(we bought a drive-away, not long after we'd bought our first van..and we sold it without ever using it in anger...)

If you feel that still need something, then maybe look at standalone items?(utility tent/Day tent type stuff?). as at least they would have some use at home,(bbqs, parties etc)

 http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=day+room+tent&FORM=HDRSC2

We've been using  a Quechua pop up,as Guy posted, for a few years now.(..not all that big but a very handy piece of kit..but not always the easiest shape/size to keep stored/packed in a van, "just in case"..)

Another vote for the Quechua , although I don't use it in France as usually it's nice so me and the kids sit under the canopy, although I am in brittany at the minute and it's not stopped raining all day, I even resorted to taking the kids swimming in the rain earlier.
The joys eh
