Just thinking of buying Iveco 2005 55plate Campervan with 115000 miles on the clock, regularly serviced, service 3k miles ago, MOT March 2016, any thoughts.
Is it a "self-build" ?..if so, make sure any gas and electrical kit has been installed up to spec'..
(...Having said that, even if it's a "professional" conversion, still make sure you check out the "credentials" of the company who carried out the work..)
We almost bought one last year, a self-build (nothing wrong with that) but following a vehicle check it came up as a previous insurance write-off. That's not necessarily the end of the world as an insurance co. can decide a van (which it was at the time of the accident) is not worth repairing and may just pay out. It can then be repaired and put back on the road (as long as repaired correctly).
So in view of its history we had a full vehicle and habitation inspection carried out (we really liked the way it had been converted, it would have really suited us) . The report came back with so many problems (not with the actual accident repair) we decided not to proceed.
So, do a vehicle history check (we used RAC, online, but there are several available) and if that's OK maybe even an inspection. It could save you from making an expensive mistake.
As for it being an Iveco, no problem with that, I used to work for a parcel delivery co. & they had no problems with their Iveco vans and a maintenance guy said they were easy to work on.Having driven them for work they are ok to drive, but the gear knobs fall off in your hand (always taped our ones on or the other drivers would nick 'em!)
