It's just been noticed on my recently purchased motorhome that the passenger side rear light cluster has a triangular
reflector. Driver side has a circular one.
Am I in breach of any illegal activities ? If not in the UK then what about abroad ?
My own search has shown me that the triangular reflectors are used for trailers and caravans. Can't say I've ever noticed this before.
Thx in advance.

Thanks for your reply. It didn't fail, it passed.
Seems to not be an issue as long as it isn't broken.
I've been finding it quite entertaining to see the reaction of seasoned camper people be it caravans or motorhomes who hadn't got the faintest idea of what I was banging on about.
Car owners in my local find it just as topical over a pint as it makes no difference to them if it's a triangular or circular shape as if they'd know anyway. It's just some great donut in their bloomin' way !
Anyways, I ain't gonna lose sleep over it now !
I would have thought that the rear light clusters would have been a matching pair when the vehicle was new so it could have cracked at some point and an incorrect one replaced by the previous owner. However, that would be difficult to prove if you happened to get stopped by the Police so if it was me I would visit the MOT station that you had the test done and get a second opinion. They could say they it went undetected and that it should be the same or that it doesn't make any difference but at least you are covering yourself by finding out if it's legal or not.
I was chatting to someone last night about this and may know the answer. Some UK vehicles only have one rear fog light which is always on the offside (driver side) so switch on the rear fog light and have a look at the rear to see if the round reflector lights up. It does make sense actually but please return the answer to see whether it solves your query or not.
I think you can only have a triangle reflector on a trailer, which would or should mean it would fail an MOT but it would need to be a real anorak to do this......
Now here is something else - under the Road Traffic Act various amendments it is a requirement that all lights should work, be in matching pairs (unless on a motorcycle or similar) - two headlights, two side lights, brake lights and ????Fog lights??? I have two on the back end - as for reflectors if it reflects it seems it is OK - I have a friend well someone has to be his friend, who is retired now but was a Chief Superintendent in the traffic division of a constabulary somewhere in England and he says that he is not aware of anything saying what shape a reflector should be. If it was me I would at some stage change the triangle for the same style as you already have.
As most know, a trailer/ caravan must display rear triangles to inform following traffic that the unit is being towed. The motorhome is not a trailer, so should not display a rear triangle. Its obvious the MOT examiner who passed this vehicle did not notice the different reflectors. It has to be a failed test. However you could possible get away with it for many tests until it is noticed, personaly I would get the offending light cluster changed before the next MOT is due.
Another thing to bear in mind is if your vehicle was involved in an accident where a insurance assessor was to check things on your vehicle, it could mean refusal to pay out!
