Dear Font of all knowledge!
Have been afflicted with this ailment and not sure if it is terminal, my awning has put on weight and if there is the slightest breeze flapps about something cronic, not too much of a problem during the day but not so clever at night, hence this email at the un-Godly hour of 0430!!
More concerned about upsetting the folks around me, can it be trimmed or is a new one required?
Hope you have all having a good summer dispite the drop of rain and temperatures!

It probably depends on what sort of awning you have and which bit is flapping but I have never heard of needing to have an awning trimmed. You can usually adjust the tension on the fabric and repeg the awning to avoid any flapping.

When it's fully guyed/adjusted, if there are any sections that are still flappy, maybe look at adding extra guy points?....using clingons?

http://www.clingons.co.uk/

Our lightweight awning(s) have flapped occasionally but it's been nothing terminal..and the noise has been no worse than the neighbours windbreaks, canopies, flags... etc....

It is a Fiamma Zip wind out awning, so only tethered near the legs for extra grounding in windy weather, in a previous life sides and front have been used and wonder if this has caused the material to stretch? Could try extra guy ropes but have trouble with stretching arms up to attach things like that at the high points and never feel too safe on steps on the wonky hard standings.

Is this a Fiamma awning in a hard case that is fitted to the van and wound in and out with a long cranked handle? If so try winding it out almost as far as it will go then winding it back it in a touch, this tightens the fabric and stops loads of flapping.

When I read your post this morning I didn't know what sort of awning you had and wondered if you had a drive away awning that was giving trouble, hence my comment about repegging.

Hope you get more sleep tonight.

Thanks Rob, will give that a try next weekend.
Awning put away as off home in the morning so should be ok tonight.

Ah..as Rob, I has hadn't realised you'd meant a windout canopy...

Tweaking it back in slightly, can take out a little slack..

Anything of any use on here: http://www.fiamma.com/EN/download/awning_repairing/

but as to it flapping at night: pegged/strapped or not,we'd never leave ours out over night anyway (too much risk of the wind causing damage it or the van).

When ours did this we realised that the arms were not extending properly when when the caopy was would out. A quick spray of silcone spray on all the moving joints cured it and it's no longer anything like so 'flappy'.
