Hi there everyone

I was wondering what motorhome people have with lots of dogs.

We have recently sold our eriba as it was no longer big enough, We have VW T5 which we transport the dogs about in but this is no good for weekends away.

We gather the motorhomes with the so called garage at the rear are good, but are they reinforced in case you get shunted from behind, also can they be easily accessed from inside?

Would love to hear from anyone who has this type of motorhome and any thoughts you have.

We have 5 gun dogs and a basset

Regards

Andy

Hi..

Motorhome garages are not usually "reinforced" (..but there again, neither is the rest of the van body, in which any rear passengers will be seated..)

To be transporting five(6?) dogs safely and comfortably(..possibly safely restrained in secured travel crates?) I would think you'd need to be looking at a purpose made/adapted vehicle or something like an adapted  "race-truck"..?

Judging by  previous threads (not just on this, but also on other forums) it seems that a  good many dog owning motorhomers, just let their dog(s) either wander around, sit on their lap or/and let them sit/settle  wherever they like.....Which doesn't sound ideal in a moving vehicle.

At the very least, I'd be using restraints/harnesses.

you need a kennel on wheels, really advice as above, it is hard to advice its like asking the question of how long is a piece of string, do your home work and find a vehicle that will be most suited to your need, but as to put 5/6 dogs in a motorhome garage, my answer is definitely not.

You could look at using a horse box lorry convertion that has the space at the rear for the horse/dogs and living accomodation to the front with an overcab bed. You may need an upgraded driving license for these depending on the size you choose, but there are some very nice ones around, and if you are prepared to pay the price, quite luxurious options too.

At least the dogs would have plenty of space in their quarters at the back, and access to the outside world be easy for them either by the side Jockey's door, or the drop down rear tailgate.
