Just got back from touring Europe after three months with our newly fitted Gaslow system, 1x11kg and 1x6kg bottles.
No longer wandering will 2 x 6 kg propane gas bottles last for three months we know they will not.
You can fill your system in most garage's at a fraction of the cost of propane, and in time it will help to pay for it self.
One of the best things we did.

We are big fans too. An expensive outlay but for convenience its worth the money.
We did have problems filling in Tuscany, major garages all refused to fill as said was for cooking and a different tax - elsewhere in Italy fine. We queried with Gaslow who had heard of problems.
Other than that every country has been easy, Sweden is a bit challenging as only 9 distributors but you can fill up in Norway just before crossing border.

Horses for courses!
As we normally have EHU on sites we barely use one Calor bottle in a year! Toured Europe - 4,000 miles last autumn - took 2 two bottles plus one 'just in case' camping gas reg and hose but hardly used 1 bottle despite being 'off-grid' for about 5 days. (E.g. running fridge on gas.)
Even with Gaslow being about half the cost of Calor we calculated that it would take us about 35 years to cover the cost of a quoted Gaslow installation! (We ain't got that long!)
Admittedly we would re-think things if we never used EHU's and needed gas for winter heating; we use the van all the year round. (We also need the 'leccy' to keep scooter batteries etc charged.)

We've had Gaslow for 4 years now - cant imagine having anything else.
Just top it up every now and again - we have never had to worry about being low on gas and never had a problem with any garage used.
------------- It's only an expensive hobby when it's parked on your Drive....use it, love it , live it.

Thank you all.
We use aires and most of them are in villages, town, and cities great for visiting them, not a lot of electric this were gas comes in to it own and we are self contained (GASLOW) and it is a quarter of the price of calor and you can fill up at most garages.
To get electric on sites at an average of £15 a night for 90 day tour would have cost £1350, GASLOW paid for, we did stop at some sites. But if you need leccy like iggycamper for is scooter then you don't need a lot of gas.
As for filling up I have a external filler but I have heard of garages refusing to fill you up I have been lucky and not been refused, I was at my motorhome dealer today and they told me it is coming law that now not allowed to fit internal filler external only.
Hope you can read this and understand it.

£15 pn for electric? !!
P.s. Using mainly ACSI sites in Spain/Portugal last Autumn electric was included whether we wanted it or not! (At least 6amp) We also prefer to use sites with full facilities rather than aires. But fully understand your choices.
Edit: Sozz - just realised your figures may be comparing using aires(mainly free?) and normal site charges?
Guess slightly off topic but for information:-
Used about 13 sites in France, Spain and Portugal for about 60 days last autumn we averaged about £10 per night (by using 3 for 2 offers when available and ASCI) As said this included 'Leccy' and normally also meant a site with swimming pool, disabled facilities, reasonable restaurant and even a proper 'doggie shower' in many cases.
Ref convenience of Gaslow we surveyed local garages here in deepest Devon 2 years ago to find filling garages few and far between. Morrisons about 10 miles away only allowed filling of LPG powered vehicles. (Tho' guess things may have improved?) Whereas we find it very easy to swap a Calor cylinder for about £22 once or twice a year, especially versus the £350 installation cost we were quoted at the time.
Btw, we are old enough to remember the 50's and the 60's so don't rule out returning to our hippy ways if Mr Cameron clobbers our pensions!
We actually dared to camp wild once or twice in Portugal last year - alongside some very nice French seniors! (Wine rather than water in their tanks!)
Iggy

Sorry the £15 pn was on camp sites with full facilities not just for leccy we all facilities on our van, we have a ACSI card and in July and August and there is no discount on most sites so that could be 30, 40, and some times 50 euros.
I fill up my gaslow system in Europe as it is a lot cheaper then UK, also try exchanging a 6kg Calor Propane gas bottle in the middle of Spain.
But I can see your way.

RDS - Yep, despite being ageing hippies we fully understand!
As explained we carried 2 calor bottles and a camping gas hose and adapter but used less than £22 worth of gas in 60 days in Europe! Back to 'horses for courses' I guess! And our doggie just loved the h&C showers and her Dad loved the 4 course meals with bottle of wine for around £9 !! 😁

One advantage of being well retired is to avoid the expensive times during school holidays !!

We put Gaslow on our van several years ago, 2x 11kg cylinders.
Yes the gauges are useless, the cylinder we are currently using has been showing empty for the last 2 months, and it's still going strong!
A very good investment and yes we have an external filler point!
