hi,

We pick up our very first motorhome in a couple of weeks time. What do people think about getting an alarm fitted?? We are considering asking the dealer to fit it prior to picking it up. It has an immobiliser already.
Grateful for advice to us newbies. Many thanks.

Alarms are always a deterrent. However, if you store your vehicle away from home, and it is attacked in anyway, would anyone here it? I notice car alarms are ignored by most people. I don't know if alarms can be 'cut off' if they are activated by someone determined to steal it, or its contents. Insurance companies are not interested in alarms or immobilisers as much as they are in Trackers. Hope this helps you.

As Austin says, they are only worth while if they incorporate a tracking device and are monitored.

We had an Autowatch system fitted to our MH a couple of years ago and we've had no problems with it.

It's a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm which also allows pets to be left on-board by themselves.

The likely hood of your vehicle being stolen is minimal but if, and let's hope it never happens, the MH is broken in to then at least it might deter thieves when it goes off or at least give some warning of an intrusion.

There are some better alarm systems than the one fitted to mine, think the expensive Vanblitz alarms, but they only deter and no alarm will stop burglaries and spending a fortune on them seems a waste of money to me.

You may find that your insurance company will require that you have an alarm fitted.

We had a Strikeback alarm fitted at Vanbitz but they are expensive but considered the best by many. They do fit LED's to the outside of the vehicle hopefully as an additional deterrent. If you are having an alarm fitted just make sure it is suitable for use in a vehicle the size of a motorhome.

I also have a strikeback which is not only an alarm but has tracker and immobiliser (sends you a text if it is activated and you can text back to immobilise it)

worth every penny I would say. Nice campsite to stay at while they do the work as well.
