Hi all, we are a family of 4 who after years of hiring statics or camping we have decided to purchase a motor home after using a friends for a couple of weekends away.
we will use this probably once a month for weekends away but also for our main holiday, often south of france.
Went to the Newark show a few weeks ago to get some ideas on what we would like (all a bit too expensive)
ideally we're thinking of overhead sleeping for me & the better half and rear beds for the kids, would like fixed beds really at rear so we can get the ankle biters to bed at reasonable time and we can still use the middle/front, they're 8 & 5 yrs old.
Loved the layout of Carioca 656 shape but out budget is about £15k max - and most I see are slightly higher.
Are there any other similar models that anyone knows of.
Many thanks for looking at my 1st post !

Hi..

Sorry, no help on the alternative models front...but some really important(but a bit boring!) things to check for are water ingress/damp!! and it's *usable payload and individual axle weights

*The reason being, if sticking below the gvw 3500kg threshold, many larger "family" type vans have quite poor payload and after a few extras have been bolted on (eg wind-out canopies, bike racks, towbars etc) and  then loaded with a family's assortment of clobber, then more often than not they will be overloaded (either overall or by the rear axle exceeding it's limit)

For 15k, I'd be looking to buy private...but unfortunately, both of those together, will limit your choice.

Don't rush into anything, as it may be, that for a family, a caravan is a better- more bang for your buck , costs nowt when sitting unused-  option?.... )

For your budget, it'll be something quite old - MHs very roughly half in value every 10 years. The layouts you saw at the show may not be available on a 10-15 year old MH, as fashions come & go. You might be sensible looking round a dealer's at a lot more models, especially one that has older models (someone may be able to recommend a dealer near you but you don't have your Location set up in your profile yet....), as there might be a better layout than the one you think might suit. e.g. Fixed rear beds tend to be doubles not singles, children like the excitement of the over-cab bed etc. You can then, as suggested by pepe63, look for that model privately. Be warned though - we knew the model we wanted and it took several years to track one down!  Hope you find The One soon, good luck.

Please do try any overcab bed thoroughly before buying a van.
