Quick heads up for anyone thinking of buying a MH and using an independant surveyor. As a member of the CCC, I have access to a discounted rate for the MCEA products. I am pleased to say that I am glad I'm using this service. The contact is a chap called Paul and he has proved to be worth his weight in gold.
I'm investing a substantial amount in purchasing a 4 year old a Auto Trail Comanche from a sizeable dealer.
The survey has found one area where there is substantial damp. The dealer has agree to rectify this and I'll be having a further damp inspection once complete.
The dealer was unaware of this issue, so that's what I call money well spent 😀
A large dealer would have found the damp just as easily as your surveyor had the dealer chosen to check the vehicle properly before sale or maybe he did? The dealer appears to have been happy to sell you a damp motorhome, do you think his repairs will be any good?
The mh had only just come into stock and it appears that the dealer hadn't done a per purchase survey. I'm happy with the way the process is moving forward. The damp survey on completion of remedial work will be the tell tale. Yes it's a shame I'm having to foot the bill, however peace of mind is priceless.
I've worked in the leisure industry myself, so I see it from both sides.
Well good luck with it. It might be an idea to find out the nature of the repairs. If there is damp in the structure it needs more than just exterior trim removing & resealing, which is the easy bit. It will also depend on if the structure contains wood, if so then interior wall needs removing & wood dried out or replaced.
In hand... I've asked for a written report as to the cause. Have also informed them that I'll be carrying out a damp inspection 8 weeks after completion. The dealer confirmed the warranty covers any repairs too. I'll be taking it back in 11 months time for its habitation service and ask for a damp report then. Plan on keeping this mh a while.
I'm fortunate enough to have a good friend who has a mh/caravan dealership. He's been a god send.
