Has anyone had any experience of motor-homing for longer periods of time...maybe 6 months? My husband has just taken early retirement and we always said we'd like to take off for 6 months or so in the motor home. Now the time has come that we could maybe actually do it we have to think of all the practicalities and wondered how others have managed it. We've been motorhoming for 8 years with numerous weekends and shorter holidays spent mainly in Devon, Cornwall and Wales and would love to visit further afield in the UK. Any shared experiences would be appreciated!

If you are just touring in the UK why not just arrange to pop home every couple of months as you tour? I can't really see an issue providing your home insurance allows your house to be left unoccupied for long periods, some only allow the house to be unoccupied for 30/60 days althought both Clubs offer house insurance that covers longer times away. Most household administration can now be done from a computer you take with you so just make sure you have all you can paid by Direct Debit so you don't have to worry about things being paid on time.

Obviously a bit more complicated if you decide to be a bit more adventurous and spend six months in Europe.

I know a couple who live permanently in a converted single decker bus.
Which was converted and overhauled by them in the last 4/5 years of their working life, it has all mod cons even a bath and house loo. They caught up with us last year when they paid us a visit and stayed on a local site. They sold their house in our road about 3/4 years ago and took off for France and have visited Spain and Germany stopping as long as they liked the place. They came home to renew their passports in Liverpool and for Ted to have a medical aswell as visit relatives and friends. I believe they are in France again after visiting Holland and Belgium according to their inlaws who we bump into some times when out shopping with my OH
