Hi all.Having a problem with my diesel heater,can anyone tell me how much power it needs from my liesure battery to work, as soon as i put the van on electric it works fine,but do not need the heater if i am hooked up.I have just had a new leisure battery fitted.

You don't say what Diesel heater you have. Try googling the make / spec. It should give the "start up" power required from the battery when first turning the heater on, and then the "running" draw once the heater has been initiated. Whether your battery has sufficient ampere hour capacity (AHC) to run the heater over a certain time period will depend on the AHC and condition of the battery. Hope this helps

mine works ok on a 70amp leisure battery I recently ran it all night on a stopover no problem .you say its a new leisure battery has it been fully charged as they are not fully charged when you get them and it will take a while to charge up

Hi Appreciate your replies.would you think that a daily run of about 120 miles a day would give the battery sufficent to run the fire a couple of hours in the evening before going to bed or will we need a hookup every now and then we are travelling down to Alicanti over about 10 days.

Iwill get all that info, problem is i have to take out the drivers seat to expose the battery, the heater is a German make. Thanks Shirley

It's probably an Eberspatcher heater. This uses about 10amps on start up for about first 3 minutes & then draws less than 1amp. Try starting your heater with engine running on fast tickover. Once heater has fired up then stop engine & heater should keep running.

Hi Open suace. The problem is as soon as i start the engine i lose all power from the leisure battery i.e lights, tv, pump, and anything else that comes off the leisure battery becuase you would assume i am driving so do not need anything running.I am assuming of course the power for the heater comes from the leisure battery?.

It sounds as if you have a wiring fault or maybe heater has been incorrectly wired in? Leisure battery should be on charge with engine running so should supply more power to start heater.

What sort of van conversion do you have, what make, or is it a home build? Eber should be powered from leisure battery but should start & run while engine is running.
