Can anyone help me, we are struggling to load a 4 bike rack with 3 bikes. I know this sounds daft but we cannot seem to get it right. We are loading 2 mountain bikes and 1 childs bike (small - for a 5 year old). This is a new van so we haven't spent loads of time trying it out. But last time we went out, my son's bike ended up in the motorhome garage, which we don't want to do.
And I thought that's what the garage was for! We never fancied bikes hanging off the back as it lightens the steering (or so I understand), but it might help if you say what model of van you have, someone will have it and know what to do.
with some racks you may have to loosen the bikes handle bars and turn them on one side or the other in order to make fit neatly and it also worth putting them back to front if you get my drift ie the front of one and the rear of the other, hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the reply. We have had no problems in the past on other vans regarding steering. Our garage is used for other kit that we accumulate! I didn't put the van make / model as i didnt think it was relevant as this is more about the bike rack. But it's a chausson welcome 618.

Thanks we were trying to avoid that but it may be the only solution.
It's a case of trial and error - start with the heaviest bike nearest the van and decide which way it faces works best for the next bike threading the carriers "arms" through the appropriate gaps. it may be worth rotating the 4th arm so that it bends down to attach to the smallest bike.
I have a photo on my phone of the "optimum" configuration for our bikes - to remind me each time I load them.
The most annoying thing with our carrier is that when it is loaded you cannot open the toilet cassette hatch which means unloading all the bikes to empty the loo while touring.

------------- It's only an expensive hobby when it's parked on your Drive....use it, love it , live it.
Hi LIZ20557 having had a couple of Fiamma racks before I've never had any problems with them, as stated above it just takes a bit of trial and error of rotating/moving the fixing arms and wheel ties till you get them all to fit, plus being careful with which way the bike pedals sit, also have each bike stacked facing opposite ways one after another so the handle bars dont clash.
As for a couple of cycles making the steering on your van lighter I'm very doubtful and have certainly never encountered this.
