Does anyone know if awning rails can be fitted to a VW Caddy Camper.
Urgently need to add extra space for longer camping trips.
If no awning rails, which drive away tailgate tents would work? (they need to be easy to erect/dismantle).
Hi. If you don't fancy drilling holes along your van's roof edge (nor just relying on "bonding" it on?), has the roof got any OE roof rack fixing points/holes?..if so, I would you use those on the one side to mount a length of rigid aluminium section/angle, which in turn could have a simple awning rail fixed to it.. (Either that or fit a set of roof/ladder bars, and use those to mount a rail assembly off..?) ..although, will the above get you enough "standing" height under a simple tarp?(and would that matter anyway?)
Having said that, if you're also *looking at drive-away awnings(either mounted on the side or over the tailgate)then you wouldn't really 'need' a rail, as you could probably get away with just using the likes of throw-over straps and pegs ( and/or small "dent-pullers"?) etc .
(*If you are looking , I'd suggest checking used ads, as drive-away awnings can get bought by some "motor homers" and then sold after very little use).
