I've had the van for a few months now and noticed that when I'm driving at night, the main beam lights are poor. Are my expectations too high? I'm fortunate enough to have the use of a car that is fitted with xenon headlights.
I've looked at converting them to HID lighting, however I feel that the cost would out way the benefit.
I would guess you will have the standard H4 halogen bulbs in the headlights which are not the best. Easy improvement is to fit better H4 bulbs like Osram Night Breakers.
It depends on how much you use your lights. If you drive in the dark a lot then you would find Night Breakers don't last nearly as long as good quality standard H4s but in a motorhome where your use of lights is less then probably night breakers are a good option.
I've gone through 3 bulbs in a year, I would say I do average nighttime driving.
I did contact Osram about this and they said the life of th bulb is certainly less than a standard one. my car uses H7 dipped and H1 mains as I said they are good you can see the difference without a doubt. They are more expensive than standard bulbs probably twice the price I got mine at Euro Car Parts which have offers on from time to time.
I now have got Philips Vision + bulbs in also good and so so good. Thing is with bulbs, they either last forever or blow relatively quickly, some of the Halogen bulbs we have in the house seem to blow at a shocking rate.
i recently purchased high output bulbs from Halfords for my car and they are excellent. This purchase was to replace the same type of bulb that had broken but it did last about 4 years.
I had a similar problem on a Renault Master I replaced the standard bulbs with Ring 100% brighter bulbs these are the ones that are slightly pink in colour it worked well for me and I never had to replace them. Ring bulbs as well as Osram bulbs are part of my product portfolio which I sell the majority of my customers in the motor repair trade seem to prefer the Ring brand
