Would connecting my solar panel to my motor battery damage my alternator

You can buy solar trickle chargers that you plug into the cigarette lighter to give a maintenance charge, but it does say to remove the plug before starting the engine. So I assume from this that the charger will not damage the alternator, but the power from the alternator can damage the charger. I hope this is of some help.

Just a thought, if you fitted a relay into ignition system to switch off the connection of the solar to the battery when the engine is running the alternator would not affect the panel. As I said just a thought.
