I agree with Opensauce..
As you say it's "new" and you bought from a "Mercedes Franchised dealer", then take it back..and get them to *demonstrate it working..
*if they don't know how, then it's up to them get,and pay for if needs be, somehow who does...
It may well just be something simple..but that's not really the point, because as it stand if they say they don't know how to operate it, then they could well have sold you something that doesn't work anyway?... 
(There are quite a few "un-branded", nice, shiny, "new" conversions about online, but personally, I'd like to have at least some idea of the competency of the bloke(s) who screwed/piped/wired 'em all together!  )
