You could have worked it out to get an average before now. We had to, as our fuel gauge is wayward. So every time you fill up, you do the sums - x miles, y litres fuel, that tank did z mpg, what's the best & worst, and go by the worst mpg as you don't want to cut out on a M-way. We're diesel, we start to look for fuel at 400 miles (the trip gets zero'd at every fill). Friends have a petrol MH, I think they get less than 25mpg & have to start looking sooner. You still have time to fill up, go for a "typical" run one day, fill up and get a mpg; round it down to account for urban driving.
We were in France last week visiting friends, not camping. Queues at all the petrol stations and a limit of 20 litres. So the mpg might not matter, as you may not be able to fill up anyway.
