Could someone please tell us how to empty the waste on our Aventgarde Compass 100. We're not sure if somethings not working, as we can't find a way to release it. We have found the waste pipe that is just hanging underneath the van, but it has no end tap on it. We even drove off last weekend and saw a trail of the grey waste water flowing out from behind us! Can someone please tell us how to properly release the grey waste!

Have you considered that the tap might be missing and you need to fit a new one?

Well we did wonder if it just needs a cap or tap, or wondered if we needed to operate a pump to dump it all maybe? Is it as simple as just opening a tap on the waste pipe, as its our first van & we have no idea how the waste is usually released!

I can't help you with that specific van, but usually, it's simply a tap. Some vans have flexible hoses for convenience, but usually nothing complicated. A caravan dealer or possibly a DIY store should have one.

The tank just drains by gravity - no pump, but you will want to flush out the tank occasionally to prevent smells.

Hope you enjoy your van and have lots of good holidays in it.

We have no tap on our old MH, it's a flexible pipe that hooks up. If it's dripping, for us it indicates the tank needs emptying. Some sites have a MH dump that you drive over, if not you put your washing up bowl underneath then empty it in an appropriate place (e.g. the drain by the water tap). We leave a black canister underneath with the pipe poked in; it has our number plate attached to it, so it reserves our pitch if we're away for the day. No pump needed.

Sorry Fiona, off-topic, but I don't quite follow..

Presumably, this draining down hose feeds from the bottom of the waste tank?..and, again presumably, you'd need to keep the open end well above the highest level of the waste water held in the tank..and if it ever became "unhooked", it would just empty the entire contents all over the road/pitch/car park etc..?

Why wouldn't you just fit a couple of quid's worth of plastic tap?...

Fiona, I get what your saying about not having anything but a hose on your van, that drips when it's time to empty it, but when you drive over the grate on the campsite, how do you then make it release?? If you have no cap/tap on the hose, what are you doing to release the waste, as that's what we can't figure out

Presumably the open end of the hose, needs to be retained above the level to waste water to keep it in?...lowering it down(to a drain) would empty it.

But again, what is wrong with just fitting a simple plastic tap onto the end of the hose?...

I just used a "pond" tap on our previous van.. and it was only a few quid, bought from a local DIY/ Garden centre

I have a washing machine inlet tap £1.20. The pipe is clipped up until we need to empty, unclip let hang down open tap and drain, when empty turn off and reclip, job done

We are also Avantgarde 100 owners and the waste tank has a on/off drain tap as can be seen in the photo's. It is connected to the grey waste pipe with a jubilee clip. As previous posts have stated I'm sure you can easily buy one from the various online caravan suppliers.

Thanks Glennscoutz! It's really helpful to see what should of been attached to the van originally. It will now mean waste will accumulate instead of constantly overflowing! Thanks to everyone for replying & trying to help us out! 👍🚐👍
