Hi..

We fitted Dunlop air assistors to the rear of our last van (7m 3650kg Renault coach built)

They are well with the realms of a "DIY" job.
We didn't bother with gauges or an in-built compressor, thinking that we'd fit them later (but after 5 years, we found we never needed them). Although fitted to raise the rear slightly(to avoid grounding on a steep driveway), they did markedly reduce the body roll on roundabouts etc

On a prior van, a smaller Compass Avantgarde 120, I fitted the Grayston coil assistors(the additional coil springs that sleeve over the bump stops).

Fitted for the same reason as above, they were cheaper and again a "DIY" job. They also worked well but obviously if you ever need "adjustment", you're not going to have any.

just bought a set for my van, £259 on ebay, just a standard set up no gauges or compressor, don't think I would ever need them , I got a compressor in the garage and a good little portable one that runs off 12 volts, it should take 2 hours to fit but   i'm thinking of having it fitted, at my age I just do not wish to get crawling under a van, lol

I found that there were two converging elements that hampered me..
One, vehicles are getting ever lower and Two, my ever increasing midriff!

mine is not the midriff lol lol,it is my cervical spondolitys, at time I feel on top of the world and manage to do things, like I have just sorted my little tomos out re the exhaust and at times I just can't move.

hi mate this is the item number, 182148703952, i'm not sure about one size fit all, they have to be made to fit a particular vehicle.

I intend fitting a set to my Mk1 transit at some time in the future,mainly as after forty years the rear springs have settled quite a bit. I have a range rover P38 on air springs and these come in for a lot of criticism,people often change them for coil springs.I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying that mine have given no problems although if I'm honest I dont think the ride quality is as good as I thought it would be.

Hi Bacondozen..
Due to the age of the springs, I would've thought it would be better to look at renewing them..?

These supplementary air bellows are really meant to assist OE springs that are in decent nick.

They aren't really meant to make up for forty year old springs that have had it.
(..although they would obviously mask their shortcomings).

as the thread above, they are really air assist not suspension as such, they do make the ride a lot better and softer, and the bonus is you can actually adjust it as you wish, I only bought it the set as my wife complains when sitting at rear of the bounciness of the camper, so I will have to wait and see if she still complains with the air ride.

Although our previous van (the Renault/ Chausson) was okay anyway prior to the air assistors, our little Fiat X250/Compass did tend to bump and bang on/off the "bump stops" (on the X250, I believe it's okay for them to be in full contact with them, as they can act as part of the suspension).

However, the Grayston coils lifted the van clear slightly and smoothed, and firmed, things out a treat(..air bellows would do the same, if that is the issue)     )

(..they won't turn the ride into some sort of super smooth, magic carpet though... )

Right the bags got fitted this morning and although I did not have to travel far back home, ie, 17 miles, the van somehow did feel different round bends and roundabout, only time will tell and the wife of course, set at 20 PSI at the moment so I figure it have to try different psi and then settle for the most comfortable, actually if some of you already have it you could probably suggest the best pressure to run them at.

I used to run ours at about 40psi..
But that was on a 7mtr long, *3860kg, 4mtr wheelbase coach built.
(*not 3650kg, as I incorrectly posted earlier)

That "raised" it about an inch at the wheel arch and about 2- 2 1/2" at the rear towbar/bumper.
