Hi to all,looking at led bulbs for mhome, do I need the ones that need a transformer or the ones that don't ,is the transformer all read fitted,12v 240mains ehu ?,I seen some on eBay any good!!!,,thanks for your time & help,wango

If your MH already has some led bulbs fitted somewhere then assuming its a 12v system then thats all you need 12v.
If you are fitting internal LEDs for the first time I would suggest go with 12v and check what you buy will run off 12v dc with or without a gizmo to regulate the supply.
I made up a 1m long light strip for the awning using flexible LEDs supplied in strip form, plugged into the caravans 12v supply and it works a treat....boy is it bright.

Hi, no LEDs fitted, got halogen bulbs that run on 12v and 240mains,I was hoping to replace with LEDs witch ones do I need , thanks wango

If you have 12v halogens running off 240v and you change to LEDs you will need to change the transformer as they are not compatible,if you change 240v bulbs to LED bulbs they are a straight swap. If you are running off 12v only a mr16 would replace a mr11 halogen but they need to be connected the right way round. This should be okay but others may know more about this subject

I have been in the shed and found a led gu5.3 bulb and it is 12 volts / AC/DC / 50 Hertz and can be connected either way round, the bulb came from Aldi, 450 lumen 7.5 w energy 41 w light. I don't know if they still have them in but it could be a good place to start

Wango, I have recently replaced the internal 12V halogen bulbs in my MH. I bought them (2 different types) from Amazon and I'm delighted with them. They run cool as opposed to scalding hot!

1. Most modern LED bulbs work AC or DC so you don't have to worry about polarity.

2. Therefore if your existing 12V lights worked from a transformer, there is NO need to change it.

3. You will have a choice of 'colour temperature' I suggest you choose warm white. Cool white can be a bit harsh.

4. You will also have a choice of 'Spot' or 'Flood' for the angle of the light beam. You must choose whatever is appropriate. I use 'spot' for the reading lamps.

5. Be sure to get the correct type of bulb and correct pin spacing.

I have also changed many of my 240V spotlights at home with LED bulbs. Straight swap - no hassle.

Thanks capt Lightning ,I new that one of us out here would know, I read some were at you could change them but couldn't fine out ,did see some thing on eBay that does what you said, any info on fluorescent light got three about 8ins at one over the cooking aira about 10ins thanks for your time & help,wango

Wango, flourescent lights are different. They use a circuit to step up the 12Volts to the voltage necessary to work the lights. This means that you can't swap the flourescent bulbs for any other type.

Your best bet is to completely change the lamp for an LED one. If not, then you could take the internals, except for the switch, out of the flourescent lamp and fit some 12V. strip LEDs. I'd just replace the whole unit.

I've used 2Watt LEDs for all the fittings in my van.
