Hi, my little used MK 5 Ford Duetto has two good batteries but they need charging every week or I cannot start engine. I have not set Scorpion alarm knowing that it uses a little current, and I've checked nothing is switched on so can anyone help?

Yes, starter and leisure battery. Some time ago when we went on holiday, I disconnected the starter battery, and when we came back, forgot I'd disconnected it but it still started on the leisure battery, which surprised me.
In the couple of hours since posting my mail, have just managed to start the engine but it idles for a few seconds and then stops, and does not respond to the throttle.

Hmmmm.... puzzling. A couple of things:-
1. The starter battery should be isolated from the leisure battery when the engine is stopped so it should not be possible to start from the leisure battery.
Therefore, it suggests that the batteries are somehow joined. Split charge relay faulty or active?
2. If you managed to start the engine, but it only ran a few minutes, I would suspect that it's not charging.
Have you got the use of a test meter?
I'm wondering if the alternator could be faulty - activating the split charge relay, but not charging .
But I could be barking up the wrong tree completely.

Hi, discovered faulty battery. Eurocarparts swapped it for new Bosch S4, but now it starts ok but before reaching idling speed cuts out after a few seconds,..any ideas?
Sorry to hear that you're still having problems. When you said that you had good batteries, I never considered that one might be duff.
I still think that my first action would be to check the alternator to see if it was charging OK. If it is, then I think that you need a garage to check for fault codes.
