I am looking to buy a small campervan / micro camper and would like some advice! It will be my daily vehicle and would need to carry 4 people for general run around, but sleep two when camping. Dont want to spend too much and would prefer manual diesel. Have looked at Mazda Bongos on line and also VW conversions. Also some of the Fiats. Any advice would be great form those of you more experienced than me!!!
We had a VW Conversion for 2 years. We've not long traded it in for a Panel Van Conversion because we need to sleep 4 (I have a very tall husband and 2 tall daughters!).
Our's was a VW T5 short wheel base and as a daily vehicle, it was ideal. Very economical and I never had any bother getting it parked in a "normal" car parking space. From what I've read, I think the VW is more economical than a Bongo. They sleep 2 comfortably also. Good luck with your search! Go and see as many styles as you can, before you choose one.
I think you need to visualise living in a small space.
What's it like sitting inside all day while pouring with rain outside.
How about washing, showering, changing clothes, etc.
How about storage for everything you want to take with you. Clothes, food, bedding.
Toilet?
Rearranging the inside from living room to bedroom and vice versa.
How about cooking a meal.
I have a Romahome R30 on a Citroen Relay (manual, diesel). Fantastic van.
4 proprer seats that convert to two beds. Fully equipped with bathroom, heater, oven, hob and fridge. Very economical, quick and fits in a normal parking space.
Only problem is that they are fairly uncommon and you don't see many on the market.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Why not build one yourself using a Renault Traffic or similar.
Doing your own conversion isn't all that hard to achieve a better than professional finish and yet it can save you a veritable fortune, I know as I did just that!
People convert anything from the small Vauxhall Combi, through to the Ford Transit Connect, Peugeot Partner etc. and then there are those like myself who have converted larger vans.
Believe me if I can do it, so can you.
All the best
Phil
