So we have just got shared use of a 1995 Fiat Royale 5 berth motor home and took it for an overnight trial run. Can somebody point us in the right direction regarding switches and valves please? We couldn't get any water through at all, we half filled the clean water tank which had been emptied. Flicked the switch and the pump makes the right sort of noise but nothing. We are thinking it must have an airlock and the swift manual says that there is an airlock valve but we don't know where they hid it! Also and it might (or not) be linked we had power when hooked up but nothing when either with engine or leisure battery- indicator reads full charge. We did find the switch that is marked to swap between the use types but is there something else? Every fuse I could find was OK. It did also have a full check a month ago.
When filling a water system that has been drained down, as you righty say you will need to purge all the system of any air.
Make sure the boiler drain valve is closed..and then with the pump on at the panel, open one tap at a time and hold it open until water flows through it smoothly...then move onto the next tap(don't forget the shower)
The order in which you "bleed" each tap can vary from van to van but with our last van,I used to operate the Hot taps first and then go back and "bleed" the cold through..(a previous van we had was a s*d to bleed through!)
With a "pressurized" system (as it sounds as if yours is, with the pump making the "noise" once on at the panel?) once fully primed/purged, it'll sense a loss of pressure (ie a tap being opened)and that then operates the pump..
Although it may only take a few minutes,it's probably best to do it whilst hooked up to the mains, as there's no point in draining the 12v unnecessarily..
Pepe has it all covered ,just one other point I would add.
A swift I had, had a rubber bung with a tightening lever attached, access by unscrewing the top of the water tank. This was the water tank drain but if the van has been "dry" for a while I would be tempted to check it, this fitting they do dry out and leak until they get pliable again..
I don't want to sound patronising but did anyone check the water is not leaking out of the tank ?..
Hope you sort it out.
Best wishes,
Greg
Thanks for that. Water had been successfully used weekend before and not drained, so not left dry. We filled her half full before turning on taps and were hooked up so should have been enough power. Not leaking, we parked on a flat dry drive and it remained dry and we took every thing that we could up looking for any valves switches to press with no sign of water. Turned taps one at a time but not even a gurgle. I was thinking maybe there was an isolation valve/ stopcock or a priming pump somewhere?
Well Tango went through most of what you can do.
On the control panel have you pushed down the water pump switch?. As well as switching to van supply.
I know when you are worrying about a problem it is easy to miss the obvious.

Greg
