Has anyone had experience of them, are they safe. We might have to stay at one in Chioggia near Venice as all the campsites are closed them

Chioggia is as safe as you are going to get, may ask at what time of year are you travelling??? You say no campsites open, but if you look more carefully there are some open around VENICE itself

we are travelling in October, but on a tight schedule. Hoping to have a day in Chioggia. I know the campsite in Venice is all year and that is our second choice. We always use campsites, especially in Italy, but one of the sostas looks good, so think we will try it

I think safety wise YOU SHOULD not have any problems in or around Chioggia, being a seaside resort it should be relatively quiet in October, we always stop there on our way to Croatia, but from Bologna after visiting family. have a nice time.

Thank you for your help. We usually stop at Bologna on way south to Ancona heading to Corfu. This time we have to make a quick journey back to the UK for the motorhome to have its annual check. Lovely to hear from you

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. When you arrive at a Sosta how do you pay for your pitch/ electricity? Do you have to get tokens like in France or is it by debit card? Or even pay an attendant?
Thanks
Jan

That I could not honestly tell you, in Italy the aires are so varied and not as in France, you may find that if its private then you will pay cash, I have yet to see a pay machine for aires in my country lol, not saying that they do not exist, but on the whole I have always found them to be private hence there will be someone collecting money, twice I have been on aires in my country thinking they were free until someone comes round collecting money, although 7 times out of ten I have found free ones, the secret is to ask other people parked up, if there is no notices of payment then its free.

Thank you that was most helpful. We were always a bit worried about stopping in Italy on the way to Ancona, but now we are exploring a lot of your beautiful country, but always staying on campsites. So th sosta is a new experience for us. Next year we hope to get a ferry to Civitavechia, explore south of Rome, to visit Pompeii and the Greek ruins at Paestium then across to Pulia to see the Truli houses then cross to Greece from Bari.

wooohhh that sound great, I have been in the Gargano area of Puglia, outstanding scenery, Pompei is a stone throw away from my home town of Castellammare di Stabia, and you really must visit it, let me know when I will pass on more info, and i'm sorry to say this but I would rather visit Sicily than Greece, two of my friends have just returned and all the while I was in touch with them they kept complaining of being harassed for food and money from the local winos and refugees, perhaps not all of Greece is like that, but I got the impression reading in between lines that at the moment its not a friendly place to visit, we did it with friends 22 years ago, we ended up in Turkey, THAT WAS JOURNEY OF A LIFE TIME, again I now would not touch these countries with a barge pole,by all means I'M NOT TRYING TO PUT YOU OFF,
