A big hello from the groovy end of the shire, new to this forum but been around for 20'years online... We are old hands at all thimgs camp so we can hopefully share some knowledge... I am a self taught vehicle mechanic, Mrs is a doctor of feet & we both cut our teeth with Commers.

Anyhoo, here's one for you, our trusty steed, an '01 Ci Autotrail Carioca on a Ducato X 230 1.9 platform is annoying the living bejeezus out of me... all is quiet and smooth until you get to a certain rev range, then a sound like theres a loose exhaust clamp rattling around on the manifold downpipe starts. Drop the revs and it stops. I've been under there and theres nothing obviously amiss, all is otherwise well...
Is it a Ducato 'thing?' Something that needs urgent attention or just a heat shield?

Hi..

How far forwards is the first "box"?
...as you can't see anything loose externally, I wonder if it could be a loose baffle inside a silencer?

(Having said that, is there any "gubbins" incorporated into your downpipes?..valves, sensors etc?)

I have a Ducato van. Recently had the same on mine, it turned out to be the bracket fixed to the chassis that holds the exhaust on (last bracket where the exhuast pipe pokes out).
Needed rewelding as its only bolted on and if its rusted it comes a bit loose at certain revs. You could try see if its that

Ok, duly noted both of those, I'll conduct a little percussive diagnoticery (whack stuff with a mallet) & see if we can replicate the noise.... :)

I had the very same on my ducato long story short it was the sealing ring in between the font pipe and the rear pipe exhaust sealing paste and a re tighten did the trick it drove me nuts for months.

Hi,
I had the same as mwooly 10.
As an afterthought ,we have had metal items under seats that have vibrated together with the frequency and sounded similar.
Just a thought.
Regards,
Greg
