Hi everyone,

We are looking to buy an older Hymer B534, prob around 1990-1995 year. Prob around £10,000

Doing our homework just now, wondering if you have any recommendations for which insurance companies to try?

I'm with Adrian Flux for my modified Land Rover and they've always seemed ok so I'll try them, but keen to learn which other companies are worth considering

Many thanks

J

Try googling insurance for motorhomes, then compare the market. I did this with my 1st motorhome, and got a good deal

go for it

It's difficult to recommend which specific Insurer to go to because it depends on your circumstances.

I'm 75, heart condition, 5 years NCB on my Motorhome (you have to start from scratch on your MH – any years NCB on your car doesn't count), my MH is valued at around £40,000, vehicle breakdown at home and abroad is included and apparently we have a reasonable post code.

Using all that data I found MotorhomeFacts Insurance (Arriva) was the best price I could get but you may find the same insurer may give a worse deal than others.

As said above, compare insurers and spend a bit of time working out what suits your needs and try not to rush into a deal that isn't suitable for you.

Best of luck.

Get a quote from caravan club , you also have to join if you take up the quote , I found it worth it , as the cover inc 9 months abroad cover , most only offer 3 , even with the membership costs I still saved .

There are companies who will either offer you the same NCD, or at least give you a reasonable introductory rate. If they don't, they are either assuming that you can drive two vehicles at the same time or they are rip-off merchants.

Bought our first motorhome in Dec 2015. Took quite a while to actually get a quote as Companies who will provide cover for an older M/H, without a Thatcham certified security system are few..
We have a 1994 LHD Knaus (Fiat). We found a company called Highway Insurance (part of LV group), they do not offer or require any NCD, which was good as we both have a car policy using our NCD.
They DO insist on a reversing camera! They DO NOT require Thatcham approved security (we do not have any, and declared no security system), Fully comp Cover 2 drivers over 50 yrs, up to 3000 miles pa, with UK breakdown, recovery & home start = £250 .... There are a few complaints on forums about customer service, but they were OK. Adrian Flux would not quote reason as above.. Most others same reason..
Good luck, persevere and you will find something.

Staveley Head were very good and insured ours including very flexible european cover for £232 ( me being 54 and co driver 47.
Britannia rescue, now LV do older van breakdown very cheaply too. We have an 87 hymer lhd that has been in spain for most of its life so its in good nick and no rust!
Good luck with your search, the fiat ducato 2.5 is pretty good on fuel and very simple to maintain.

for my 2000 Rapido motorhome I found Camping & caravan club the cheapest good value insurance as they recognize that a motorhome is not used as everyday transport
