Hi, I have a Knaus Traveller motorhome which is quite elderly. Because of it's age finding information / owners guides etc is virtually impossible.
I do not know what the recommended tyre pressures should be. There is a plate on the door shut stating various load and tyre pressures applicable to the cab/chassis without the habitation.
The weight of the unit is 3200kg and the distribution of weight on each axle will dictate the pressures needed. Apparently I could calculate this by looking at the tyre ratings and taking the van to a weighbridge to establish the front axle / back axle loads.
But life would be so much easier if someone could tell me please..
It is a 1994 Fiat Ducato 14 Chassis, 2.5 non turbo.Knaus Traveller 630 habitation unit.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

Hi Rob,
Can't give you the pressures for your van but the link is for the knaus owners club if thats any use.
It is on a page discussing tyre pressures ,but might be worth joining.
Regards,
Greg

Worth noting that you can get the weight when you have it mot'd
They need the weight of both axles to work out the braking efficiency just ask them when you book it in next

Although it might make life a bit easier for you if you didn't weigh the MH it would make life a lot worse if you were stopped on a spot check and found to be over weight.

Without knowing the weight of the MH when fully laden (going on holiday mode) it is impossible to give any idea of the pressures you need in your tyres.

For the cost of a fiver and a few minutes of your time I'd suggest you get the MH weighed in holiday mode and when you know the correct axle weights the tyre pressures can be worked out quite easily.

What type of tyres, size, rating, age and manufacturer are on your vehicle?

Thanks KeithChesterfield,
I did read up about calculating tyre pressures using the axle weights and tyre info, but it involved contacting the manufacturer of the tyre to obtain specific loading characteristic data.. Unless you know differently?

If you give the details about the tyres and weights then I'm sure someone on here will be able to work it out for you can't do it yourself.

Thanks Greg M,
I looked at their website and it looks very much like it is targetted at wealthy retired pleasure seekers and not really anything very serious.. I doubt whether anyone really remembers anything about a 22 year old Knaus. It just feels as if you don't have a 40 grand outfit then you may not really fit into their social circle...
Hey, maybe I'm wrong but it's just an impression.. Like here you get the feeling that everyone is welcome no matter which socio-economic group you belong to LOL.
Cheers.

Sounds like a plan - Next time I go to the storage I will get the tyre data.. It's due an MOT in next couple of months so I can get the axle weights then,
Thanks.

A lot of blowouts on the motorway are due to under inflated tyres. They overheat and the side walls go pop. So until you get the pressures set to the correct level, probably as well to keep your speed down and/or set the pressures, cold, just below the maximum shown on your tirewall?
We experienced a rear wheel blowout, years ago due to overloading a coachbult with low pressures (my fault) and were lucky not to injure ourselves or others.

Thanks for the heads up, I would say that we will not be seeing any motorways in our old M/H, it's just not really that kind of van. Flat out at 60mph, comfortable at 50.. Don't want to push it and tbh motorways are just a whole load of stress and pressure. [ I spent 15 years out on the motorways as a mobile engineer.] Stick to A roads these days.. But that's a whole different subject!

Tyres look well inflated and the van is only going about 30 miles within the next few months MOT and back to site for winter..

When I have axle weights and tyre specification I will be back here asking questions.
Thanks.

Hi Rob,
sounds familiar ! I used to do huge motorway miles with my job. We choose "A" roads wherever we can. Far more scenic!

Tyres, no matter how good, are only as good as the valve fitted to them. Our vans, mostly, need HD valves. Car type valves are just not good enough. Please get them looked at even if you have new tyres on now...or have them fitted soon. The weights they carry are sometimes way over loaded. BUT even tyre fitting 'shop's' are not always aware of this.
