Just bought a 21 yoa T4 campervan from 80 year old couple. Good news: excellent condition. Bad news: propex heater hasn't been used in 12 yrs and they couldn't remember how to do it! No guide either. I assume it's gas run, and can get it to blow fresh air when switching rocker switch to fan symbol. But when I switch to gas symbol, it still blows cold for a short while, before stopping. At this point, red and green LEDs flash. Presumably some kind of fail safe?
Can anyone give any tips please? Am I doing something wrong? Might I need to replace a fuse, and if so, how to discover which one? Might there be some hidden fault in gas feed I could find easily? Is there someone in East of England who services heaters, and if so, what is a reasonable cost?
silly question but I have to ask it, is the gas turned on? does it have its own gas control valve( I ask as I fitted one years ago to my then Toyota) and is the battery fully charged?? it will run for the cold air but to ignite it you need a good up to scratch battery ie fully charged, have you tried it with the mains on,
Do the lights flash continuously? I gather that the number of flashes indicate the nature of the fault, though this may be model dependent. I think that there might also be a reset button somewhere on the heater.
No. Of Flashes
Symptons
Possible Causes
1
Failed to ignite
No Gas left in bottle
Bottle or gas tap turned off
Incorrect gas pressure
Igniter in heater failed
2
Flame Sensing
Run out of gas whilst operating
Gas switched off
Ingestion of gas through combution air
intake
Low gas pressure
3
Low Voltage
Battery voltage low
Bad connection in supply
Cut out 12v Model=10v – 24v
Model=18v
5
Combustion air flow low
Blocked/Partially blocked
exhaust/combustion air inlet
Water trapped in exhaust pipe
Damaged/crushed exhaust
Fan motor running slow
6
Gas solenoid valve
Faulty valve in heater
8
High voltage
Voltage too high
12Vmodel = 15.5V - 24V model =
30V
9
Heat exchange temperature high
Blocked inlet grill or obstructed hot air
outlet
Fan speed low
Faulty thermistor

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
irespective off the fault if this is a gas appliance that has not been used as you state for 12 years i would strongly advise that it is checked by a gas safe engineer with the appropiate certification.
Everything that Capt Lighting has said is spot on.
It's worth remembering that there is a separate gas tap on the manifold that isolates the heater. It is located in the cupboard with the Electrical trips. If the fan operates then the fuse is OK and there are no reset buttons.
