Hi all we have a swift escape its on a Ducato with an overcab bed. We think the aerial is in the wing mirror, but the reception is pretty poor. Any advice re fitting another aerial would be greatly appreciated, i.e is it an easy job and will it make a difference?
Thanks
Dawn

Hi,
Just a thought, have you checked the aerial connection at the radio end?.
Not unknown when all the looms are being fitted or if work has been done in the dashboard for it to be pulled out slighty.
Regards,
Greg

Thanks Greg, we did when we tried a dash mounted aerial which was even worse.

Hi,
Just had a thought, you mention another aerial was worse.
We have a dashcam that interrupts the signal to our satnav, we had to separate them as we could not get a signal to the satnav.
Could it be you have something interfering with the radio signal?.
Regards,
Greg

We also have a swift escape and had the same problem. After going backwards and forwards with the dealer and swift we eventually gave up and went to see a car radio specialist in our local town. He said he gets loads of them as it's a well known fault. He put an aerial on the windscreen that you can barely see that runs along the bottom and up the nearside. We also had a digital radio put in at the same time but that was just because it wasn't much more to do it at the same time, and it also gives us an extra USB port. I think it was £160 and was well worth it. Fiat blame swift and swift blame fiat but nobody sorts it out.

Hi Dawn
From our experience relatively poor radio reception using the standard aerial built-in to the door mirror on Ducatos is normal rather than a 'fault' as such - also guess that the equivalent Peugeot and Citroen vans suffer a similar 'feature'.
Believe it will only apply to coach-built vans as the smaller vans that retain the original metal cab roof etc can still have a proper external aerial fitted on the metal roof above the cab.(This was indeed the case with our SEA SLOOP Ducato conversion a few years ago where a relatively cheap/cheerful radio worked very well in all areas.)
The radio in our current Ducato (just using the Ariel in the wing mirror) works OK in decent reception areas but suffers when away from towns etc - notice you are in Scotland btw. All that said we got good reception in France and Spain last year.
We fitted a digital radio in our last van which just had an aerial 'stuck' to the inside of the windscreen -- this worked very well. Perhaps this may be the easiest if not cheapest solution? ( ... Halfords?) Hardest part will be routing the cable neatly and invisibly to the back of the radio. Larger Motorhome dealers can be very helpful - ours in the SW certainly have the 'knowledge'.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if they vary from van to van but ours barely worked at all. It didn't work where we live, came on now and again as we got going and never worked abroad. I know it seems like a lot to pay when you've already paid a considerable sum for the unit but I couldn't be without mine, especially when I'm travelling long distances and my husband is asleep!

Thanks to all for your replies, I guess we'll take to a specialist. You spend £KKKK's on a van and can't get a decent radio, kinda annoying!
