Any one used an A Frame to tow a car behind a Motorhome in the last year or so. Can’t seem to find anything on any of the forums after 2015. All the installers that you talk to say that it is now legal in Europe and produce loads of facts and figures. Very confused and would love some input from other Motorhome users.
Cheers.       Paul

Not tolerated in Spain or Portugal , and just because others have used them and got away with it doesn't make it legal . Belgium doesn't allow it either nor Germany .
Just ask these A-frame manufacturers to give you a written guarantee that there 100% legal to use abroad and they will pay any fines incurred ?

Spanish traffic law states that any car NOT being driven must be either transported on a recovery truck or trailer . Look on the N332 Facebook page which is run by the Guarda Civil , all the facts are there for motorhomes . This year there has been a purge by the Traffico division on motorhomes flouting the law

The Aframe in most of europe is still classed as a recovery aid, in which it will be legal.
Towing with one you take your chances over there.

Wineciccio is right. ( Again ) Lol. It does depend on the mood of the 'copper'. HOWEVER if you would take the advice of a Long Distance Lorry Driver, who does over 1/2 a million miles in Europe in every 3 years. That is a lot of miles. Do not go there! He has seen in one year ( o.k parts of Europe do have a longer season remember) 37 motorhomes at the side of the road waiting for either a driver for the car, because the O.H. will or cannot drive it. Or (as the answer to either cause he does not know) a trailer to remove it. Plus remember it is illegal and a fine will accompany the offence.

When I was continental truck driving I was doing up to 4k km p/wk which is 2.5k miles so around 360,000 miles in 3 yrs maximum. You can't really any more than 500miles in a day in a truck on clear motorways sticking to legal hours.

If A's mate is doing that much then he is running as badly bent on a daily basis as a Ukrainian driver in a Hungarian reg truck(I'm not making this up, be careful out there)so would have no time to stop & listen to sob stories from stranded motorhomers...Good story though.

Winey has it right. The final arbiter will be the cop who stops you so argue it out with him in his own language.

Having lived in France for a long time, NEVER EVER argue about anything with Gendarmes in France because if you do, rest assured, your holiday will be ruined and they will go to hell and back to find countless reasons to book you and that could even end up resulting in them confiscating the car being towed on the (stupid - idiotic) 'A' frame!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because some people get away with it in Spain doesn't make it any less illegal.
Pretty much like France, if it's the Guardia don't argue with them. They are ALWAYS right.
