 Hi - fellow Campers! Well heres my problem which I'm hopefull one of you can put me right on,I bought a V/W bay window Camper which had been Imported from California. It had the usual hook-up cables from the house or camp site to the van, but from Inside the van there Is a transformer for (220 or 110amps)with two pot hole type of push - In plugs but which are smaller than the push In connections outside the van. Plus they are TWO Pin as opposed to (3) as Is the outside, meaning I need a (2) pin going Into a three connector! can I get one? Regards to you all & carry-on CAMPING! Mad Mick;

Hi Mick & welcome to UKCS

It's still wired up for the US if it's 220/110amps. You won't be able to use UK appliances in it without adaptors and voltage convertors.

Are the 2 holes for the plugs sort of more like slits rather than the 2 pin holes as on in Europe?

I have a friend who brought his TT back from the US and rewired it all to use it here.

I shall send a link to here and he should be able to help you out with advice.

Hello Mick

Jan sent me your Link.  Yes I brought a Folding Camper from the US of A in 2004.  A 2003 Fleetwood Coleman.  I have converted it to Uk use, however, I have a number of US accessories so had to make it dual.  I installed  the Usual UK trips to feed all the UK stuff and ran a feed from the output of the Main Circuit breaker, so it was all protected, to a heavy duty transformer, had to be heavy as I have A/C in the Camper, which fed all the American circuits via the US circuit breakers.  There are good helpful folk on this site.  I certainly recieved a lot , for which I am greatful, so, between us I am sure we can help.  Feel free to chase up my help if your "Boots" plan fails.  I have to say that these adapters can be a nusiance as they have to be on hand so conversion of the sockets is a preference if you only have UK stuff but, if like me, you also have US or Canadian accessories, you need to keep the two.  It is important that you only input into the Vehicle, from UK Campsite mains, via a fully compliant Control Circuit but I am sure that you know that already, and make sure that the Canadian system is protected via that UK Compliant Control Circuit so that the UK mains only sees your UK side.  That is as simple as I can put it, in non technical terms.  But happy to advise further, should the need arise.

I understand that vehicle is a US Vehicle.  It has, unless it has been modified, a 110 volt input.  This has to be changed to use UK equipment.  Until that has been addressed you are unable to connect to UK mains, as you know.  I was merely saying that I had replaced my Electrical input so that I could use UK equipment and and ran a supply from the output of the breaker to feed a large stepdown transformer to feed my US accessories. I meant the master breaker, situated on the CP where the RC trip is, to feed the transformer.  I was trying to be as non technical as possible not knowing the background.  This was just to say make sure that you have the US side switchable for safety reasons.  Current never entered into it.  I was trying to say make sure it is connected to the output of the Master Breaker on the CP. Trying to say the US CP needs replacing if only using UK accessories or switched by the UK version, if also using US accessories.  I did mine and that works so was endevouring to pass on any help.  No I was not getting confused between current and Volts, I guess my post confused.  I was advising as to what I did.  To me, just having a transformer connected directly would not seem safe.  It should be switchable.  Mick said he had normal connections outside, feeding a transformer.  At this stage I do not know how that transformer is wired.  I was expressing how I did it and offered to help accordingly. Sorry if this confused.

Richy, wind yer neck in lol.

I dont think the comment was aimed at you, we all knew what the original poster meant and I replied with a cut and paste of the voltage, never giving amp or volts a thought. Sooooooo, the comment was probably aimed at me too. Like I care!
