I am surprised not to be able to find any discussion on this point anywhere on the forum.
The plastic surround on my Bolero (4yrs old) outside/awning light has become very yellow!!
I take it that this is just caused by the weather, I thought bleached by the sun, but we don't get that much sun in the past couple of years.
I have tried many products to restore the white colour, but no great result. Now I am convinced that I will just have to replace it, I take it that it will be easily unscrewed from inside the van as there are no screws visible on the outside.
Another thought, has anyone used "pvc paint", seen it on ebay £10 for 250ml, does this sound like a solution?
Really interested in a solution, I'm sure that some of our members must have had this problem.
just give this stuff a try, boiled linseed oil, rub it in and buff it off and see what happens, it works wonders on anything plastic that has lost its shine due to sunlight fading, I use it regularly on the bumpers of my jeep and the mirrors, they come up as new,
is it the lens cover itself or the frame that holds the lens that's yellowed?
I have a 2006 MH and the lens and the lens holder were discoloured. My lens pops off to allow access to the screws that hold the frame in situ. I haven't replaced my awning light frame, but have replaced the lens.
Hi try this product worked for me, bought from ebay.
CARA - CLEAN Restores yellowed plastics back to white.
CARA - CLEAN reverses the Chemical reaction caused by the Sun's U.V rays on white plastics.
White plastics turn yellow due to a chemical reaction, this reaction is caused by the suns U.V rays and an additive added to the plastic when manufactured to help flame retardancy.
CARA - CLEAN can reverse this chemical reaction, with proven results, bring back the life into your old yellowed plastics and Caravan / Motor home, RV.
One bottle will be easily enough for one - two - three vehicles
I tried the boiled linseed oil, also T-cut, but neither made any difference.
I then tried CARA - CLEAN, this product requires the yellow plastic item to be placed in a sealed plastic bag while the chemical reaction takes place, not ideal when the yellow plastic item is attached to the van!
I coated the item with the chemical and then taped plastic to ensure the area was sealed, but even though I did this twice, there was VERY little difference!!
Eventually I used "Rustins All Surface, All Purpose quick dry 250ml Paint for Wood Metal UPVC", with great results, the item is now WHITE.
