You may find your tables will bridge the gap, resting on a lip. We can do that in our Autosleeper but we prefer to use the pull-across slats that slide away under the bench when not in use.
There's dense foam on the Internet, might be easier to look at adverts in the magazines for firms that make up cushions to order so they are as similar in thickness & density to your current beds.
Don't forget how you'll store it in transit - you may need to make 2 smaller bases rather than one bigger one.
