Hi everyone. I知 new here and very new to camper vans. In fact i don稚 even have one yet, which is why I知 here hoping someone can give me some advice which will help get me started.
I moved back to the UK 4 years ago and very nearly bought a VW California. I live in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and I知 a landscape photographer, so the idea behind the camper van was for my work i.e. travel to locations and stay for a few days before returning home. At the time I was unsure how long I壇 be in Scotland for so decided not to risk shelling out a hefty sum for a camper I may have to sell if I had to move on. I bought an SUV instead. The idea behind that was the 4WD and enough space in the back to bed down if need be.
Sorry for the ramble, but I thought setting the scene might help clarify what I知 looking for. I now know I知 going to be in the UK much longer so the time has come for me to consider a camper van. I知 looking to trade in the SUV, which is worth around 15k and add any extra required. My budget is around 30k but I can be a bit flexible on that if need be.
What I知 after:
Something around the size of a SWB VW Transporter, preferably an auto.
Good reliability
Will be comfortable for 2 - 3 nights stay
Storage space for my photography gear, preferably where it will be out of sight.
A double bed
Somewhere I壇 be quite happy to sit for hours on end whilst waiting for the Scottish weather to clear :)
A van my wife and I, plus two medium sized dogs, could also go away for a couple of days in without issue.
Somewhere reliable that I can either buy one ready converted or where I can get one converted that痴 reasonably priced and will do an excellent job - preferably near to Aberdeenshire.
I hired a VW Transporter camper from a local company a few weeks ago, just to get a feel for it. I was hoping they could give me a recommendation but they bought their T6 new and had it converted by a company in South Wales, which is a bit of a trek. They also recommended against the VW California, saying it was overpriced for what you got and getting a conversion done was the best way to go, value for money wise. So my search continues but I知 hoping you guys and gals on here can give me some pointers, recommendation, anything that will help steer me in the right direction because I知 not sure where to start or what the best approach is :/
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Dave
