I am looking to isolate my omi step so that i can use a caravan step to make it easier to enter and exit my motorhome. If i put the alarm on the step retracts and when i turn the alarm off it comes out. The only way that the step with stay retracted is to manually lock the door with the key, but this does not set the alarm. Any suggestions please.
------------- I have forgotten more than I now know
Can not be of help I am sure, as our omnistep was operated by one button at the entrance door. I do not know anything about alarm buttons connected to the step. Someone more aware of this should be able to help you. Other than that I can suggest only that you try in some way to add either another way to operate the step without it being 'in line' with the Motor home alarm. We have also the black plastic caravan steps. Both the single one and a double one. Each of which allows much easier/safer access than with the electric retractable step. I will check to see if the double step can be used with the Omni extended, but hidden within the plastic framework of the double one. In the meantime maybe you will have sight of other responses.
Many Steel fabrication places will make you a step to your own specification and width which would allow you to use it with your omnistep still in place. I have seen some fine examples mostly made as boarding steps for various boats, as well as some specialist designs to aid people with disabilities to enjoy their Caravanning hobby.
Most are made from tubular lightweight metals with the option to create a foot design that is less likely to sink into soft ground than the standard 4 individual feet. We spotted one up at West Ayton CC site last year which also had a sturdy handrail fitted to the side.
