We love Britstops. We've stayed in some fantastic places and had the whole field/car park to ourselves. At one, the wifi was so good that we managed to watch MotoGP in the van, on the laptop, after the cafe had closed.
We've had a couple of issues with places saying they weren't in Britstops any more, and one where the pub was closed when we arrived just after 9, despite us having phoned earlier to check that they were open and that we'd be there about 9!
The nicest ones often seem to be farm shops with cafes imo.
I reckon Britstops have saved us a small fortune in site fees.
Hi Ray, when we had a caravan we would find small sites or CLs and negotiate afternoon storage so we go somewhere in the car before heading on. Not free though but did allow us to see other places.
Just to add thumbs up to Britstops, we've just got back from a four week tour
south of England into Wales, across to Ireland up the top across to Scotland & back to south of England, used BS about half a dozen times & every one very good, no booking, phoned ahead if required otherwise just turned up & spoke to owner.....no problems even with the dog.
------------- It felt good......so I dun it! I'm not old I'm .........forgot what I was gonna say.
Further Britstops feedback. Have booked another two on the phone this evening. Again all good with both parties well aware of the Britstops method of contact and happy to take a booking. Will report back after the event. First one is next Friday. 9/6/17.
On a recent trip of UK & Ireland we used them about half a dozen times
& each time it was just phoning ahead if required or just turning up & presenting yourself (and being very polite) never had any problems, after getting off the Stranraer ferry at ten o clock in the evening & phoning 801
a very nice landlord told us "no problem, we'll probably be closed when you arrive so just pull into the car park & set yourselves up". The book has well paid for itself already & we're not half way through the years yet.
We always told them we had a dog with us with never a problem.

Just back from a long weekend in Yorkshire and experienced our 2nd Britstops at number 557. Great little venue with loads of home made cakes, food etc. You will need some levelling ramps as its not that flat, but very very quiet and they even open at 08:30 for brekky. Highly recommended. Next stopover booked already so will feed that back post the event.
