I have recently bought a 1993 Talbot Elddis 320 autoquest and need to know how to convert the 2 single beds into a double - if this is possible.
Look forward to your replies.

Hi Murf,
Welcome to the forum.
The normal way to turn them into a double (dependant on the layout) ,is either the dining table slots into the sides of the two singles, or at one end of the two singles there will be slats connected by a tough tape that pull out and again sits on the edges of the two singles.
It is then a question of arranging the seat cushions and backrests to make up the double.
I had a 1993 Elddis 270 and there was a small box under the dining table, the slats pulled out of there.
Also you could pull the end of the seat out and make it wider.
If you don't work it out get back on here and I will dig out some photos for you.
Enjoy your van.
Regards,
Greg

I think the Autoquest 320 had a choice of 2 long sofa / beds or 'dinette' seats which make up into a double the way that Greg suggests.

If the first case, there may be a slide-out under one or both of the sofa beds and you use the back cushions to make a double and a single, or a king sized bed.

You'd have to check.

BTW what engine does the van have? Check the gear change for play (they used to be awful) and you may find it rather underpowered.

Hi Murf,
Managed to find this photo of the old van.
Box against the wall under the table opened up and the slats pulled out of there.
As the Captain said, the gear lever used to have a hell of a lot of movement on it.Can be a bit hit and miss finding gears.
Also they were prone to rotting around the bottom corners of the front windscreen, worth keeping an eye on.
Having said that we had many happy times in her.
Hope you have the same.
Regards,
Greg

Thanks to all who replied. I have found out from the previous owner that the pull out pieces were destroyed so no chance of a double bed. I agree it is rather underpowered and gear box took a bit of getting used to. The only rust on it is around the wheel arches, which I hope to have repaired. We've had a few short trips in it and really like it. Lovely condition inside. Thinking of getting power steering fitted.

My 'Highwayman' on the same chassis proved totally reliable, so I hope you have many happy times in your van.

It was a bit of a 'tank' to drive, so power steering sounds good - I've seen it advertised for £600 fitted or £400 DIY.

Hi,
It would be no problem to reinstate the slatting, just take the measurements off the ledge along the seat fronts and go to a caravan breakers. I am sure you would find them there.
Regards,
Greg
