Hi
Does anyone know about parking in London? We are going to London (green park, close to Buckingham palace)in the motorhome. Is the parking free as it will be a Sunday and if so does anyone know of a good place to park a 7.5 m long motorhome?

Thanks
Wayne

Sorry to be a "party-pooper", but London is an absolute nightmare for parking, unfortunately. The word "free" is not in any London council's dictionary. Even parking a small car in London is difficult and expensive, and London is just as busy on Sundays as any other day.

It might be worth trying coach parks, but there aren't any all that close to Green Park. As a former coach driver I can tell you that the coach parks fill up quite early with tourists' coaches, weekends especially. If you are planning to visit London, I would advise that you use public transport. Sorry I can't be more helpful, and I hope you find a satisfactory solution.

Colin

Never done it in a MH but we generally park at an underground station & travel in - woodside park is very cheap

Unless you know London like your reflection in a mirror I would forget about it. Like a twit I started to work out a route for you from CARDIFF. Then noticed your area as Southampton....so deleted my usual essay, and will offer this.
Take a look at the underground ABOVE GROUND stations. You should find a few. We used to use Stanmore (Junction 4 on M1) often, years ago. Parking is not free and of course will need a spot for your van. You may have to think LEZ zones also, if you want to drive in 'all the way' that is. Most above ground car parks have a drive over ramp that lowers to let you in. Similarly, you have to pay to get it to lower to get out. The only thing I do not remember is if they have a height barrier. It has been raining here all day,get your maps out, if you have a rainy day and check the car parks out and do the last part of it by train. Have a good day in TOWN.

I mean even when I lived there I wouldn't park that close in

Congestion charge, low emissions, everything has changed & the bit round the palace was a a one way nightmare!!

I live in London and would not consider taking my car let alone my Motorhome into town.
If you have to come to London there are some sites on the outskirts where you can then get public transport into town, a lot cheaper than trying to park.
Lea. Valley, ongar theobold park to the east are reasonably accessible

Abbey wood is a caravan and camping club site which is a bit nearer to London and there is a station nearby.

As an example, coach parking in Tower Hill (near the Tower of London) is £10 per hour!

We stayed on the Lea Valley site a few year ago, bus stop at the gate few minutes to the tube, think it was about 40 minutes to get to city centre.
Nice site, walks along the nearby canal.

One word, don't. We live West of London, and are 20 mins by train. Can even get there by bus or tube. I wouldn't drive there, let alone take a large motorhome. You won't find parking near to Green Park for free even on a Sunday, and parking charges are exorbitant anyway. There is no congestion charge for a Sunday, but it is a low emission zone, so depending on the age of your MH you might fall into that category. Our advice is that you either use one of the sites recommended by other posters, or park in one of the outer zone tube stations carparks, such as Osterley on the A4 which is on the Picadilly line, which goes to Green Park.

Yes that is quite typical of coach parks. Definitely wouldn't be allowed in that one anyway. Strictly coaches only. The only one I could think of that might be possible is the one between Marble Arch and Notting Hill. Any on-street coach bays you would get a ticket within 15 minutes. Personally I wouldn't even think of trying to park a motorhome anywhere near central London. I had enough problems trying to park a coach, and often ended up driving right out of town as all the coach parks were full.

If you are coming to London for an overnight stay or longer, I would recommend the Hertford C&CC club site, which is lovely. Good rail connections into London.
