My husband is in the process of converting fiat doblo into a very small camper van. I would like to get some sort of small drive away awning. Does anyone know of an awning that would be suitable. Many thanks

If you have roof bars, or the sockets for attaching roof bars on the roof, you should be able to do it quite simply, if you intend to use the sliding door that is. If you use the rear doors it could be a just little more difficult. I understand you wanting what is called a drive away awning, for the extra space it will provide. However it does not have to attach to your little van. It can stand along side, and you can secure it as you would any 'tent' whilst you go on trips out. Drive away awnings have height sizes so check your height and have a look in camping shops. If it is your wish for a drive away one, check out the fixing kits that are available for your van. There are many ways to attach them. Probably the easiest, but not always possible for some vehicles is the Kader rail(which is not a rail! it is a webbing strip with beaded sides (they come in same to same bead (6mm to 6mm and 6mm to 4mm) you would also need a plastic strip called a figure of 8. Google drive away kit and you will see what I am talking about. After this, things could get a little bit more messy in the arrangement. If you don't have the facility to use the roof rail. Best of luck. Check out Ourdoor Revolution products, and more expensive Vango.

When we had a doblo without roof bars I fitted a pipe along one side then had a Easycamp 4 man tent that fixed onto the roof bar with velcro. Easy to take of the van when going out for the day.

Hi again. I did make another response to your query, but it evaporated into the ether. Maybe I was tired.
It was to say that looking for something that may suit you and your van, I came across the Vango Hex Hub. Since looking I have convinced myself that this would be ideal for us (also) I love the look of it, the size of it and the fact that it is not attached to the van, but can be pitched right next to it, with one of the three full size doors facing and almost touching your sliding door,(and in our case the side opening door)the flexibility of the guy lines are such that they can be angled along the side of the van (including ours)making it almost 'connected'. But with the added advantage that it presents no problem when returning to your pitch. Our large one, does cause some concern to other campers, but not the site owners. We have used this not connected, but this HEX HUB seems as though the large size of it will allow for much more 'stuff' in our case fishing gear to be stored safely, and give room for more people to sit and eat at the table as well. Plenty of videos on line if you google Vango Hex Hub. Looks a really useful item for planned party evenings in the garden at home as well....whatever the weather. Yep, the more we think about it the more it makes sense to sell the BIG one we have, and replace it with this one. Keeping our smaller one for weekends away, with less persons to occupy it. Can't find it for less than pennies short of £375. If you can wait, as we shall do, to the end of this season it may be found cheaper perhaps?. Thank you for inspiring us to take a look what would suit your needs. I found what seems the way to go for us.

Thanks for taking the time to answer and research. Defo food for thought. Seems like a great idea. Good luck

Years ago we had one which worked well on a self converted small Renault Extra van from 'Caranex' in Scotland. Think they are still in business.

Interesting iggycamper as I have just advertised my Caranex on this site having changed from a Skoda Roomster to a Fiat Doblo high top camper which it does not fit so would not advise one for anniewalks Doblo. Caranex are still in business and it is a lovely little extension tent and I am sorry to be parting with it but Tim Goodwin at Caranex had no answers to adjusting it for the Doblo other than finding a tent maker who could maybe make alterations.
