First trip away in our Bessacarr E410 and we've been locked out of our habitation door. 😪
It isn't the locking mechanism as I can partially open it by about 2 inches but then it jams seemingly at the bottom hinge. Very strange.
Has anyone got any ideas what it could be?
It states that you can partially open the locking mechanism by about 2 inches but then it jams.
Do you mean that the locking mechanism is functioning okay but the hinge itself jams?
If so then the hinge pin is partially seized in which case, just remove the door from the hinges (so the hinges are attached to the bodywork) then apply some releasing fluid such as WD40 into the spindle pin then grip the hinge bracket with some mole grips and work it to and fro continously. It will eventually work free and when finished just lubricate the spindle pin with some 3 in 1 oil and refit the door and just pinch up the screws first. Make sure that the door catch is aligned then fully tigten up the hinge screws.
The door has been opening and closing fine with no sticking whatsoever so I can't see it being either of those reasons.
When I say jams I mean to the extent that I would literally bend or snap something to open it any further.
It's as though someone has stuck a wooden wedge in the door jam.
Hi,
Could it be catching your flyscreen frame?.
On some vans if the door slams with the flyscreen across it moves the flyscreen frame.
Just a thought.

Hi Arthur
Yes I've done that but the door only opens about 2 inches away from the lock. The hinge side therefore only opens a fraction which doesn't allow any visual inspection at all.
It feels as though the problem is at the lower hinge but it's so hard to tell.
Hi ,
My wife reminded me, last year we had a stone jammed under the door at the hinge end, and had a devil of a job opening it.
Had to run a screwdriver under and it took ages to free it.
Hope you get this sorted Finchy.

Greg
Hi and thanks for all the offers of solutions.
Finally got to the bottom of it today. It wasn't sticking at the bottom, but at the top.
The retaining strut had come loose and effectively wedged the door when I was trying to open it.
Now I've just got to work out how to re attach it!!!! Hey ho.
Thanks again everyone.
