Hi all - we have had the hab check done by our nearest dealer network since buying it as it was only a year old and still under warranty, every year they had to do work on it, mainly cosmetic, but obvs it didnt cost us, now we've had the first one done out of warranty, small things we have rectified ourselves, had a very experienced, knowledgable MH friend look at the list, and in his opinion, they were 'looking for work' - can anyone recommend an honest, reliable company that do habitation checks in the South Wales area please - thanx

I think that your friend is correct. Use a previous checklist and go over it yourself. Either get a damp meter, and if you find anything suspicious, pay to get a damp test done. Gas safety - if you get your boiler serviced,ask if they'll do a check on your van for a small fee.

Generally, I'd only have a habitation test done if I was selling the van.

My partner and I have different thoughts about the expensive habitation check. We are just about to get ours done on our 3 year old Signature. I think we need to continue doing it because of the 10 year water ingress warranty on the Solid construction by Elddis. Could we just get a damp check done and a separate gas safety check done? Would it be cheaper?

You will probably find it would invalidate the Elddis 10 year warranty if you miss the annual damp check;and it must normally done by an authorised company btw.
I would check with Elddis to see who is 'authorised' in your area then at least you can shop around a bit.

Note that if you have already missed a damp check by the due annual date Elddis will have already 'ditched you'... pun intended!
(As with all warranties (and insurance policies) the devil is in the 'small print' details!)
