Yes - belts and tensioners age and should be changed as per the schedule.
Most cambelt failures are as a result of another component failing which then destroys the cambelt and potentially wrecks the engine.
I've only had the issue once and a tensioner bolt failed, thankfully repairs weren't too bad - just top end rebuild, rather than a whole new engine.
Have the water pump changed at the same time.
