We did the trip earlier this year with Charlie our Lab from Fishguard Wales
to Roslare Southern Ireland did the south, west & north coasts & came back from the North to Scotland, not a problem at all, (didn't have any paperwork at all) just told the ferry people & they put "pet on board" on the card that you hang from the interior mirror. Downside was having to leave him in the MH during the trip, plus side is there are so many fabulous beaches there & other places for a dog they'll love it & the Irish are a lovely people, they'll make you welcome. We'll certainly be going again soon.
Took our dog on the same out route to look after a mates house while he was away, we have done it a few times. The Stinking Spaniel was in the back of my pick up truck with a load of logs, it was winter and my mate in Eire had no logs. The dog was in his crate.
We got pulled over for a search at Fishguard, the chap said "What do you have in the back sir" reply "a load of logs and a dog sir". I got out, opened up the truck, he looked inside with his torch and said "Yep, a load of logs and a dog". Have a nice trip sir. No checks whatsoever.
No issues on the return either.
