Hi, my first ever post so forgive me if this has been covered (probably several times) before..
We've recently bought a VW T4 (Topaz) and are looking for a a driveaway awning but a lot of them seem to be very wide (the distance that it comes away from the van) if you take into account the section that attaches to the van as well. Some of the campsites we visit are limited in width on the pitches so can anyone recommend an awning which is limited to 3.5m in total in width?
Thanks,
H

Hi.
Not a proper drive-away awning admittedly but we use Quechua Base tent against our low roofed Toyota "camping-van"..It can be up and full pegged in 3-4 mins..

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/base-seconds-pop-up-camping-shelter-id_8208602.html

It doesn't leave the door totally "gap free" though, so we just use a small strip of old tent canopy to bridge what small gaps there are-photo in "gallery".

(This strip also serves to cover the top of the door when it's open, as most driveway awnings can leave the door exposed to the elements, which results in door upholstery getting wet if it's left open when it's raining).

Hi,
we have a Sunncamp silhouette motor 225 driveaway awning which we used with our VW T4 Transporter Vision campervan,it measures 250cms from side of van so is ideal for small pitches. It is only a small awning but really well made,we initially bought the pole version but then changed to the inflatable version which is well worth the money, much quicker to put up so great for short stays.Hope this helps.

It depends on how quick you want to park and set up and then drive away each day. We have tried all options over the years, drive away awning, Quecha 4 man pop up and now we have just a small pop up toilet tent that a) marks our pitch when we are not there and b)store our outside table and chairs and bbq so we don't have to keep packing up if we drive off for the day. Also good for shoving the van end of the electric hook up in whilst leaving site end attached so someone definitely knows you are on that pitch.

Hi, we fish and must have an awning for the storage of the kit. We have 2, a small and HUGE. You do not have to attach your awning to your van, nobody is forced to do this. Drive away awnings do not need a van to hold them up. The very name of them ensures that if you do attach to a van, and need to detach for whatever reason, they stand alone. It will still be there when you come back. Even our huge one can be erected to run along side the van to prevent the funny looks from other campers who think that you could be encroaching into their paid for area. An awning provides extra space, the setting out your table and chairs to eat out of the van and it is raining, cooking, storage, sleeping. The size of your van will allow on the smaller pitch you mention, for you to 'park' your awning behind it, along side it, or in front of it, (providing you can back off of your allotted space.) We have 2 as I stated, both are Vango Air Beam products, and if I get 'MY' way, shall soon own a Vango Air Hub as well . The weather is not always good in UK...so get on YouTube and watch some videos of erecting tents /awnings/ etc. They can be very entertaing / educating when it is raining. Good Hunting.
