Hi folks.
Query? Noticed on our current caravan site that there's a large motorhome that ties a smart car and it's got the same registration as our Volvo??? Surely this isn't legal is it? Assuming he puts the motorhome reg on the smart car then surely that is illegal despite the motorhome having the same reg as us? Can anyone fill me in on this as I didn't think two vehicles of any description could have the same registration plate?
Cheers
Obviously one of the vehicles is displaying the wrong registration number. If you are sure that your car has the correct plates then I would photograph the other vehicles and report it to the police. Have you tried checking the details online to see which vehicle is taxed or mot tested under that registration number?
The Smart car will have to be registered separately with its own numberplate to be driven on the road. If it is being towed by motorhome on an A frame then m/h plate will need to be clipped to back of Smart car.
If you mean the m/h is UK reg & numberplate is identical to your car then possibly m/h has been cloned. Phone the cops & speak to them provided you are certain both plates are identical. They might send a car in the area around to check it out.
Its not a crime in progress so you can't really dial 999. You will have to call 101. Good luck getting an answer on that. You might be waiting 20mins.
Are they standard numberplates or do you mean the identical plates are private plates?

You can't be serious, surely.
If I was to spot another vehicle with an identical registration plate to my own car, I would be in contact with the Police immediately. Either they have false plates on or I do but the Police would check it out to see which one is authentic and which one is not.

this is another one of this ridiculous questions that appear on forums.
Its abundantly clear the course of action to take if the plates are indeed identical as your own, regardless of the situation with the towed vehicle.
Number plates effectively link the vehicle to the owner rather than identify the car, So i would immediately contact the authorities as something fishy is going on, a picture would help as would the motorhome/ car manufacturer and model.
Interesting thread, I've been watching it all day. The OP seems to have gone quiet. I think he/she made a mistake and now feels a twit. We've all been there

Correct numberplates - just went into wrong van by mistake?
------------- The older I get the better I used to be.
Perhaps the fake plated motorhome owner was involved in some nefarious crime like drug dealing or vehicle ringing? He read the thread, realised the op was onto him & done for the op?
He is having a laugh. Children know that 1 vehicle has 1 reg number. None can be legally duplicated. It matters not if that vehicle is towing ANYTHING. A vehicle is a vehicle, engine, no engine. If it is on wheels it has its own identification. A trailer has its identification and is the same as the same number as the vehicle towing it. IF that trailer carries a car, on A frame, transporter, whatever...it should also carry the number plate of the towing vehicle.
