We are in the early stages of motorhome van conversions, we have been impressed with a couple of companies what are the expert views, van or coach build, budget about 50k, some wild camping also Europe for a couple of two week trips ?, or is it best to go for coachbuilt.

We are just now changing from coachbuilt to van conversion. There is no real difference in length really (6.3 m) , bit it is a bit narrower and drives mor3 Car like than van like.

The pros for us , it takes up a little less space in the drive.
It’s got a more powerful eng8ne
We can use it as an every day vehicle
Though compact there is everything inside that coach built has.

We will get rid of Car and have one set of running costs.
New van is 4 berth, 2 living areas, outside socket and bbq point
Current awning will fit it too.

So far the only con for us is the storage, but we will adapt I’m sure.

Oh and the new van will be easier for us to clean, as the coach built was the over cab bed.

There isn’t really anything our new van can’t do that the coach build did.

I guess it depends though on the type of layout that works for you and how you will use it. We have gone for autosleeper

Van conversions have some advantages in that they are more compact and if you could manage with the 5.5mts model you could go anywhere that a car could go. Once you are up to larger van conversions at 6.3 mts long then I think it becomes a bit more questionable. There are lots of coachbuilts of 6 mts or a bit more that will give you a lot more internal space without being that much larger on the outside. My advice would be to get to a few dealers and look at both types so that you can try and judge which would best suit you.

We have a 6.4m PVC and although it is shorter than our previous coachbuilt it is much better designed and does not feel any smaller inside.
We are absolutely sold on our PVC and would not go back to a coachbuilt.

We've just gone from a 5.6m to a 5.9m panel van conversion. It's also slightly wider and taller and has an external gas tank rather than on board bottles.

It's exactly the same make and model as before (Murvi Morello).

We can't believe the extra storage space we've gained. We're just transferring all the stuff over from the old van to the new and it's gobbled it up with space to spare.

We've had a van conversion for 3 years and have been really pleased with it (VW Crafter LWB), however we have just changed it for a Motorhome. The main reason was a bit more comfort and more floor space as we have a large dog. An expensive purchase just for those reasons but it's better for us.

Just finally taken ownership of our first PVC the autosleeper fairford. On comparison to our bessacarr   There is a little less storage, but easily manageable. Floor space is no less. It’s very luxurious and very well finished. It’s warmer than the Bessie , it’s not shorter but drives much better and easier to handle. It’s 160 bph, 6 speed gearbox. We originally went for coach as we have 2 cockapoos, but perhaps should have gone fir PVC in the first place.

It was important for us to have a good kitchen space as we cook a lot even in the van! The fairford has a great space and a socket for electric pan for use outside and external bbq point for use with underslung tank.

I’m glad we switched, maybe still a tad exited though lololol

Hi have looked at van conversions particular Vantage and they are so much more comfortable than coach built. We find in Coach built the seats are very upright, not good for chilling out. Where the Van conversions are just like our chairs at home, and so easy to convert into a king size bed. The down side is they are expensive.
