Anyone tell me if I could insure a motorhome for 3 months and not 12 months?

Most insurers will offer a monthly pay option and then you simply give notice to end your cover.

Even with an annual policy you should be able to end the cover mid term and get a refund.

Why would anyone wish to keep a motorhome that is not covered by insurance?

There have been plenty of motorhomes that have been destroyed by fire (either accidental or vandalism) over the years. Also there is always the risk of theft.

It would be on a secure storage site so fairly safe when not used in the summer as I use my caravan then.

Even in a secure storage site I would not even consider not having insurance
Ska 1951 has pointed out the pitfalls
You may find that the storage site insists on insurance

This is not the first incident and I am fairly confident that it won't be the last. Motorhomes cost toooo much to be uninsured

As pointed out. It’s possible storage site will require vehicle to be insured. If you are going to sorn it then you can get laid up insurance.
