Hi does any one have any information on Fiat Vans. whats the build quality like, are they reliable, service costs ? any reported issues or problems. we are looking at 130 bhp or 150 Cmatic.
I had a fiat van based Motorhome and in general it was very good and reliable , nice to drive, economical
Make sure the timing belt has been changed as if it goes it’s very expensive!
I had it serviced by a fiat dealer so it was a tad more expensive than a non franchised dealer but overall not that painful
Spares are easy to get as it is also based on the Citroen and Peugeot vans
The largest proportion of motorhomes are based on the Fiat Ducato.
Have had 3 over last 20 years - all good. A better drive than Ford Transits(imho!) and much cheaper than Mercedes options.
(Fiat generally have a much better name than they had say 20 years ago. Our local Fiat dealer is first class so that helps.)
------------- The older I get the better I used to be.
Hi ,
I had a 2003 Swift Lifestyle 630G with the Fiat engine (I believe it was an Iveco based engine).
It never let us down and for a big van gave suprisingly good mileage.
I now have a Peugot based van but would not hesitate to have another Fiat.
Regards,
Greg
I used to have a dislike of Fiat but I am on my second Ducato and have been brilliant I drive a transit normalcy granted it done more miles but for reliability the Fiat wins ( A convert )
I have 1996 Fiat based Burstner MH.It's now done well over 150000miles and still on original clutch and exhaust.....wish I hadn't said that! does 26 mpg and has had maintenance work like water pump and cam belt etc.
would have another any time but loth to change unless the government makes it illegal to have a diesel
On the earlier models I think the Fiat may have had a different engine than the others. This may not be the case now though on the newest shape, I have the Citroen Relay 2015 it has the 2.2ltr Transit engine I have covered around 30,000 miles in 2 years and it has been perfect. A mechanic friend advised me to have the oil and filter and also the fuel filter changed every 10,000 miles regardless of what the service book says.
------------- its our imperfections that makes us perfect
Hi again,
One thing that I have remembered about my 2003 van.
Apparently the bottom support rail for the radiator is very prone to rusting and becomes an MOT failure.
Not a massive job but worth checking should you go for one of that era (up to about 2008 I believe).
Regards,
Greg
