Hi, I usually like to travel in the motorhome in all seasons and weather.
This winter I have not been able to and I am now wondering if it would be best to keep an oil radiator running in the van during this long wet spell.
The van is bone dry, but the upholstery, etc feels cold and damp. Perhaps a dehumidifier would work better than a heater?
What does everyone else do to protect their van.

There is an argument that there are so many ways for moist air to ingress the caravan/motorhome that you may be attempting to dehumidify the neighbourhood. Having said that I have used a dehumidifier in the past but now I do use an oil filled radiator but only occasionally for a day or two if the caravan is likely to be left for a month. I'm trying to use the caravan all year round but it looks like I've missed January. Looking forward to being out soon in February.

I would go with the heater.
The problem with the dehumidifier in vehicles is that they have many vent holes so you dry the air and it is immediately replaced with more damp air. If you keep it warmer than ambient then the moisture does not condense in the van and just passes through as it is meant to.
personally i think a fan heater with a frost stat is the best option.

Hi,
If you feel the upholstery feels damp there is no harm to run a dehumdifier .
The heater will warm the van but not neccassarily get rid of the moisture already in there.

I would just leave it as it is ... that's what all the folk who have there units in storage do, or store the soft furnishings in the house if you have the space.
